Who we are
Brief Background of CHOCU
CHOCU which stands for Children Helping Other Children in Uganda, was found by Edna Allsop Henke, Lynn Henke and Charles Lukyamuzi. It was founded with the aim of providing early childhood care and education to vulnerable children and building resilience to help them overcome childhood vulnerability. The organization is focused on improving the outcomes of the most vulnerable children in rural areas, one school at a time. CHOCU also seeks to address health issues faced by many rural children, such as malnutrition and resulting illness, and to provide early intervention and education to help children achieve their potential, be healthy, safe, and resilient.

We want to supply Shoes for Barefoot Children, through donations from web site, business donations, sponsors, and parents who can afford to help.
Children living with disabilities need assessments for what is needed to help them attend school. We will find an assessment tool as well as a list of possible donors for technology and expertise.
Find food aid and clothing and medical referrals for children living in poverty.
Look for grants and donations to help in research and development of programs to help place orphaned children in homes locally and world-wide. Become familiar with Ugandan laws regarding adoptions international and work to change them if necessary.
Look for help in changing labor laws regarding the number of hours children can work per day and per week, and what age is legal for children to begin work outside of the home. Insist that children who have got to work do not work under bad conditions and are paid equitably for their labor
Train older children to help younger children with understanding of language, help them with school curriculum and answer questions, watch for children with disabilities and befriend and assist them to get the things they need in class, and train them to watch for and help stop bullying. Teach them People First Language

Fundraisers for startup expenses. Children who are from a richer area can be fundraisers for children in outlying areas. Plan a presentation for school officials, and local businesses to raise money for your use in getting to where you can be successful in getting shoes for children who need them, also ask them to promote a donation box for shoes for children. After getting permission from the schools have an assembly and present a fund-raising opportunity for the children to get donations from their relatives and friends and to bring old shoes of theirs that are still in good condition to pass on to the children. Do this in several schools with all board officers able to be presenters and answer questions about CHOCU.
